Why hybrid and EV A/C is different
Most hybrids and EVs use an electric A/C compressor powered by the high-voltage battery. That compressor needs a special insulating oil. The oil used in ordinary A/C systems can contaminate it, damage the compressor's electrical insulation and set isolation faults. We service these systems with equipment kept separate for that reason.
A/C and the battery
Many EVs and plug-in hybrids use the refrigerant system to cool the high-voltage battery, especially while fast charging. When the A/C isn't working, the car may limit power or charging speed to protect the battery. In Miami that happens fast.
What we service
- Electric A/C compressors and their high-voltage wiring
- Leak testing and recharge with the correct oil and refrigerant
- Heat pump systems, such as the one in newer Tesla Model 3 and Model Y
- Battery coolant loops, pumps and chillers
- Inverter and motor coolant systems
- Hybrid battery cooling fans and intakes
